New OVHLA Secretary

The OVHLA recently held elections for the President and Secretary position at our AGM on September 24th, 2015. Alexandra Hickey was elected to the position of Secretary for 2015-2017 term.  Jessie Cunningham was re-elected as OVHLA President for the 2015-2017 term.  Alexandra is the Technical Liaison Information Specialist with NewCo, a Canadian Medical Association subsidiary.

Deadline for Mosaic 2016 Submissions

Only two weeks remain to submit an abstract for “Mosaic: Be Part of the Big Picture l Mosaique: Faites partie du portrait global,” to be held May 13–18, 2016, in Toronto.

The submission date is earlier this year to accommodate the joint meeting of the Medical Library Association (MLA), Canadian Health Libraries Association/Association des bibliothèques de la santé duCanada (CHLA/ABSC), and International Clinical Librarian Conference (ICLC).
The call for submissions  abstracts for contributed content that supports the theme, “Mosaic: Be Part of the Big Picture.” New this year, authors will rank how they would prefer to present their content: paper, poster, or lightning talk. (https://www.mlanet.org/meetings/am/mla16/index.html)

Also new are special content sessions: Groups (such as sections, chapters, special interest groups [SIGs], and others) are invited to submit proposals for engaging 1.5-hour-long sessions.

When submitting your structured abstract, decide if it’s either a research abstract or a program description abstract:

*   Research abstracts report on designing, conducting, and analyzing a research project.

*   Program description abstracts describe the creation and improvement of products, programs, technologies, administrative practices, or services conducted by librarians and information professionals.
The distinction is important because your abstract will be appraised using different criteria. Criteria for both Research and Program abstracts are available in the Papers and Posters

OVHLA Executive Council Election – Call for Nominations.

The Ottawa Valley Health Libraries Association will be holding elections for positions on the Executive Committee. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills, broaden your professional horizons and experience, and learn from your colleagues. The Ottawa Valley Health Libraries Association (OVHLA) Executive is currently seeking nominations for the following positions:

1. President (for the period Sept 2015 to Sept 2017, 2 year term); and

2. Secretary (for the period Sept 2015 to Sept 2017, 2 year term).

All nominations must be submitted no later than September 21st, 2015. The Election will be held at the OVHLA’s Annual General Meeting on September 24th. Results will be announced shortly thereafter.

Upcoming Journal Club

The OVHLA will be hosting another Journal Club (in person and via teleconference), at the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technology in Health (CADTH) on October 6th from noon – 1:00pm.   We will be discussing a few articles with similar themes around the impact of medical libraries and librarians on patient care.
